Harry's Purple Heart Comes Home
A video about a WWII strafing, one man's story of survival, and his family's quest to honor him
We hope you enjoy this heartwarming video about the amazing story that was uncovered when a thoughtful woman sent us the Purple Heart of TEC5 Harry S. Deener who served with Company I, 242nd Infantry Regiment, 42nd 'Rainbow' Infantry Division.
TEC5 Deener was severely wounded in a strafing from a German ME109 on April 1945 during his fifth month of combat.
Miraculously, he survived.
Like so many, TEC5 Deener came home from the war and worked hard, built his family, and lived a humble life. His sons, Malcolm and Jerry, never knew of the event or the details surrounding his wound - or his service in general.
In the video, you will learn about TEC5 Deener and his service, meet his family as surprise information reveals along the way, and join them as they gather together on a very special day to honor him and receive his Purple Heart back home.
Every moment of returning valor to the Deener family was truly an honor to experience, and their hunger for information was a perfect match for our determination to help them find answers.
